Amino Acids: Importance and Benefits for for Sport and Wellbeing

Amino acids are one of the basic building blocks of the human body. They are constantly being converted, broken down and rebuilt. Amino acids are involved in almost all metabolic processes in humans and are therefore indispensable in the human organism for a healthy body with a strong immune system. As protein building blocks, they form muscles, organs, skin and hair, but are also components of enzymes, hormones and immune cells. A distinction is made between essential, non-essential and conditionally essential amino acids. A balanced supply of essential amino acids through diet or targeted supplementation is therefore important not only for athletes, but also for people with increased physical or mental stress. In contrast to the latter two groups, essential amino acids cannot be produced by our body itself and must therefore be supplied in sufficient quantities through food.

Benefits for athletes: muscle building, immune system, regeneration

Because amino acids are absorbed more rapidly than whole proteins, they do not need to be broken down first. They therefore place little strain on the digestive system and are quickly available to the body. This characteristic makes amino acids particularly relevant during periods of increased physical exertion, such as after intensive training or during competitions. In this situation, the body draws on muscle protein for energy, which leads to a reduction in muscle mass. The targeted intake and sufficient supply of amino acids, especially the branched-chain amino acids BCAA, i.e. leucine, isoleucine and valine, counteracts this process, conserves the body's own reserves and promotes regeneration and muscle growth. Leucine plays a key role in this process because it initiates muscle protein synthesis and thus supports the development and maintenance of muscle tissue. The conditionally essential amino acid L-glutamine is the most abundant amino acid in muscle tissue. Its concentration decreases after strenuous training and competitions. Targeted supplementation with L-glutamine after exhausting physical exertion can have a positive effect on the muscles, glycogen replenishment, intestinal flora and the immune system.

Muscle maintenance and fast recovery: amino acids in endurance sports

During prolonged exertion, the body increasingly draws on its own protein structures, which can lead to muscle breakdown. The targeted intake of essential amino acids, especially BCAA and leucine, weakens this process and shortens the catabolic phase. For longer activities in cycling, triathlon or trail running, we recommend taking one ampoule of Amino 12500 or Amino EAA Tabs every two to three hours. This stabilises the protein and amino acid balance and protects the muscles from breakdown – especially in the event of an energy deficit, when the body uses muscle mass for energy. In addition, it is recommended to consume another ampoule of Amino 12500 immediately after intensive training sessions. The BCAA, L-arginine and L-ornithine contained in the product have an anti-catabolic effect, i.e. they inhibit muscle breakdown.

FAQs about amino acids: EAA, BCAAs, L-glutamine, capsules, powder

Amino 12500 is a highly concentrated shot containing 12.5 g of amino acids, including BCAA, L-arginine and L-ornithine. The branched-chain amino acids leucine, isoleucine and valine protect the muscles during exercise. Ideal supplement for endurance sports and strength training.
The capsules contain all essential and semi-essential amino acids in free form. They provide high-quality protein building blocks such as leucine and BCAA. The amino acids are immediately available, promote muscle growth and regeneration, and are also suitable for vegans and plant-based diets. Amino EAA Tabs are easily digestible and can also be taken during exercise to supply the body with amino acids and protein – whether at the gym or on a long bike ride.
L-glutamine is a semi-essential amino acid with proteinogenic properties. The powder supports regeneration, the immune system and intestinal health. The intake of glutamine is particularly beneficial in competitive sports. SPONSER offers it as a vegan preparation for targeted supplementation. 100% L-glutamine in freely available form.
SPONSER offers high-quality amino acids in drink ampoules, capsules or powder form, which are ideal for meeting individual amino acid requirements. Powders such as L-glutamine are ideal for individual dosing, while capsules such as EAA Tabs are practical for on the go. Amino 12500 Shots are quickly available and very handy. All forms provide sufficient amino acids for the human body's needs.
Such a deficiency can impair muscle regeneration and muscle growth, as amino acids are the basic building blocks of proteins. Especially during intense physical exertion, the body draws on muscle protein as a source of energy. A lack of individual amino acids, for example due to insufficient protein intake or incorrect nutrient supply, chronic diseases or metabolic disorders, can lead to increased muscle breakdown. The immune system can also be weakened, as certain amino acids such as L-glutamine are important for its function. After intensive training, during fatigue and in periods of stress, susceptibility to infection increases if the supply of protein or amino acids is insufficient.
Intense training causes micro-injuries in the muscle fibres, which are repaired and strengthened by amino acids. Essential amino acids such as leucine, isoleucine and valine promote protein synthesis and accelerate regeneration. Without an adequate supply of protein or amino acids, muscle growth can stagnate and recovery is delayed – which limits training performance and muscle growth in the long term.
